ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The aim of the conference is to create conditions for an in-depth look at the relationship between trust and change in a situation of division. We invite you to participate in  thematic sessions, in which we will focus on immigration, social services, education, games and arts.

SESSIONS

  • Session I

IMMIGRANTS STRUGGLING FOR THE RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC DIPLOMAS

We expect papers describing the process of immigrants obtaining higher education diplomas by immigrants, especially through nostrification.
Analyses to date indicate that this is a complicated, lengthy, and expensive process in most countries. As a result, many immigrants work below their qualifications, experiencing a sense of professional degradation. The local economy loses out because human and social capital is wasted.
On the other hand, this process can be viewed as a game of credibility. The level of education and requirements differ from country to country. Therefore, state authorities set specific requirements, which are not always easy to meet.
We intend to collect and publish quantitative and, qualitative data and case studies from several countries in order to compare immigrants' situation on the education and labour market. We want to identify the most significant barriers to immigrants' the educational and professional inclusion. We are also interested in learning about good practices in this area. We would also be grateful for analyses of cognitive gaps in knowledge about immigrants' access to higher education and nostrification of diplomas. The collected articles will be published (2026) in the journal ADULT EDUCATION DISCOURSES (Adult Education Discourses). They will be the basis for discussion, followed by and then a joint international research project called UN/RECOGNISED.

  • Session II

    TRANSFORMATIVE POTENTIAL OF SOCIAL SERVICES

The development of social services is considered a necessary response to the observed sociodemographic processes: ageing of societies, depopulation of cities and villages, isolation and a sense of loneliness, the impermanence of family ties, the disintegration of local communities, the growing rate of mental disorders, etc.
Dissatisfaction with the current forms of social services is expressed in many ways. A postulate is formulated to expand the scope of services (e.g. housing or transport), increase their availability, provide services at the place of residence, and adapt them to clients' needs. The most radical postulate concerns the transition from services provided in extensive large facilities to a deinstitutionalized form. This postulate arouses resistance and anxiety among some service providers and other stakeholders.
Transformative Potential of Social Services  is an idea whose essence is the search for a form of social services that will serve to strengthen the ability of individuals, groups, organizations, communities and institutions to change in accordance with changing needs. The basis of this idea is the belief that the ability to change should include all categories of social actors in the sphere of services.
We are looking for papers addressing transformative aspects of social services in different countries. We are interested in theoretical, empirical, and practical texts. Your texts will become the basis for discussion on the usefulness and application of the idea of transformative potential of social services. We are particularly interested in the issue of trust that arises in a changing situation. What role does trust play in reforming social services?
If we manage to collect high-quality articles, we will attempt to publish them in the Social Service Review or another recognised journal.  Social Service Review | Vol 98, No 3

  • Session III
    MOBILE EDUCATION ACROSS DIVIDES

Mobile education as an idea and practice is an attempt to respond to several contemporary challenges.
Firstly, living in a mobile society, we should offer education that adapted to its new specificity. Students benefit from both spatial and social mobility and, they are users of mobile device. Therefore education should become more mobile regardingin terms of the forms and methods of classes offered. Secondly, mobile methods, as research shows, contribute to greater involvement of teachers and students in the learning process. Research walks, study visits, and gamification combined with joint movement in space are ways of making teaching more attractive and effective. Thirdly, mobile methods can be used as a way to strengthen social cohesion by reaching disadvantaged environments, offering education tailored to special needs, and integrating groups and generations.
We encourage you to prepare empirical studies that concern the integrative, inclusive, and transformative potential of mobile methods in education.
If we manage to collect high-quality articles, we will attempt to publish them as a thematic issue in "Teachers and Teaching. Theory and Practice", or another recognized journal.

  • Session IV
PLAY AND ART AS TOOLS FOR TRUST AND CHANGE

This session explores how creative mediums like play, art, and cinema can foster trust and drive transformation across societal and educational divides. Serious games, urban games, and participatory art projects offer platforms for empathy and dialogue, while films and literature addressing themes of migration and belonging provide powerful tools for challenging stereotypes and building connections.
By combining theoretical insights with practical examples, this session aims to highlight the potential of these creative approaches to address divisions, promote understanding, and inspire systemic change in contexts such as migration, social services, and education.
