is Professor of Social Research and Co-Director of the Centre for Children and Young People’s Participation at the University of Central Lancashire. Before becoming an academic he was a youth worker and residential social worker. He is an inter-disciplinary scholar with a particular interest in research methodology and has worked on innovations in mobile, visual, narrative, and participatory methods. He co-edited Knowledge on the Move: Studies on Mobile Social Education (2022) with Mariusz Kwiatkowski and Sinan Gulhan and Social Work and the Visual Imagination: Seeing with the Mind’s Eye (2019) with Lynn Froggett, Julian Manley, and Martin Smith. He has undertaken applied research in the fields of youth homelessness, substance misuse, and mental health, as well as in participatory and collaborative arts.
